Liz Jacob is an artistic line of sustainable clothing for little children crafted out of pure cottons, organic cottons and linens. Founded in year 2014, the brand has come a long way from being a small homegrown hand-painted line of clothes to a more established player in the niche, handcrafted segment. The range sells pan-India and is developed by working closely with artisans across the country who speacialize in weaving, block, screen and digital printing and embroidery.

Liz Jacob is the creative expression of designer Elizabeth Jacob (Liz) whose aesthetics naturally lean towards understated, simplistic elegance and fresh pastel palettes. Having handled brand communication and advertising campaigns for leading fashion brands in the country, she understands the importance of quality, customer service and design innovation. “For me, the creative freedom I enjoy in this journey is the most exciting and enriching part. I am constantly researching about printing and weaving techniques and reaching out to artisans who can help me execute the ideas brimming in my head. There is so much to explore in design and the learning never stops”

Liz Jacob’s styling principles revolve around comfort, sustainability and the longevity of clothes. Every garment is lined with pure cottons to increase its general shelf life and the seams are stitched with care so that it does not bother children when they wear it. We avoid over-doing design through excessive use of fabrics and embellishments. Comfort is so important, especially in the case of little children who explore their fun world on the run. Fabrics are chosen carefully based on their their threadcounts, yarn quality, overall finish, lightness and softness. The brand uses local textiles, especially handlooms, in modern silhouettes, creating an international appeal. Small boutiques based in Australia and Dubai have been sourcing garments from our label.

Sustainability has to be a cornerstone of every new age brand. We work with many fair trade certified vendors and the primary sources of our natural and vegetable dyes are parts of plants such as leaves, flowers, fruits, seeds, barks and roots of dye yielding plants. These natural dyes are eco-friendly and bio-degradable and non–carcinogenic. These are soft and low toxic colours and are generally non-allergic. We also have a GOTS certified organic cottonwear range for those discerning customers who are willing to pay a small premium for it. We are developing sweet nursery décor elements like buntings to better-utilise leftover fabrics and thereby reducing wastage at our end. All artisans and crafters associated with us are well paid and treated with utmost respect.

Inspiration for the brand’s handprinted range comes often from the founder’s world travel experiences. Signature prints developed in-house have a story to tell – from earth’s natural wonders to the culture of an exotic, eclectic destination. We have explored designs around Japanese Origami to Moroccan Zellige mosaic patterns and it has all been well received by our patrons.

Liz Jacob sells online through its own marketplace www.lizjacob.com and also through other niche portals. It has active social media pages through which it communicates regularly with its audience, including a few celebrities. According to founder Liz who loves little children, “Customers are so engaging and interesting these days. They want to interact with us directly and often go that extra mile to show appreciation by sending us pictures of their children wearing our clothes. This in itself is a strong incentive for us to come back with better designs each time. ”
