This picture is super super special to us! The story goes way back into 2016/17. These girls are siblings and one of them is a special needs child who was visiting the studio to watch her sister model for us. Awed by her sister in action, she slowly started interacting with her and moved into the camera frame unknowingly and Shwetha (my friend and photographer) called me asking if I was willing to include her in our shoot. I knew it was the right thing to do and now when I look back, I am so proud of owning a kids fashion brand that is inclusive and nondiscriminating in its approach. While we do love our picture perfect brand images, we also feel it is important for us to keep it real, meaningful, and purposeful. Fashion is for everyone. We have done shoots with all kinds of children irrespective of their body type, skin colour or special needs. Having worked in leading advertising agencies, I have been a part of many popular brands’ photography briefing sessions. The requirements were always biased towards models with fair skin, great body and looks. Whereas so many international brands have done amazing fashion photoshoots with physically challenged/disabled models. Good styling and a great photographer is all it takes to make these campaigns look stunning! And the eyes of these differently abled models express so much more than some of the perfect 10/10 models. This picture turned out to be one of the best pictures in our portfolio with both girls looking gorgeous in their own way. It will be good to see this level of public acceptance here in India as well!
We have been thinking of the different ways in which we could contribute/collaborate/create within this ‘inclusive fashion’ space. So here’s a pilot test we wish to run specifically for premature babies. I met a few mothers at exhibitions who expressed their difficulty in sourcing pretty, cotton infant-wear for their premature babies. I was really surprised that options didn’t exist for these babies. So, our next tiny step towards ‘Inclusive fashion’ is to customise cotton clothing for premature babies. You can WhatsApp or call us on 9845540582 if you want us to customise a few pieces for your tiny bundle of joy! #prematurebabyclothing#inclusivefashion #lizjacob #birthing#childbirth #infant #prematurebaby #inclusivefashion #fashionisforall#fashionpolice #responsiblefashion#breakingstereotypes #happiness#compassion #humanity #lizjacob#beingkind #kids #childhood#childmodel
