Liz Jacob has been completely inspired by the small and big joys of motherhood and the pure innocence of little children. I started this label when my son was all of two years and it came from a deep passion within me to create a range for children that was subtle, understated and all about elegance.
In my entrepreneurial journey, I have come across so many suppliers, customers, trade partners and it’s funny how I have started noticing the business ethics of various people that I interact with. The world of business is cut-throat, and many interactions are often short-lived as people keep cutting ties to build newer, more lucrative ones . The pressures of survival are very high. And to be honest, this is where you get to see true colours of people. From a small pond of corporate culture, I was setting out on my own without the backing of an organisation and taking all pressures on my own. This journey exposed me to all kinds of people, and it was disturbing to see lack of accountability and plenty of attitude, especially at the grass-root level. It almost seemed that the world just wanted to pass on their frustrations forward.
Meanwhile, my child was also stepping out from a protected Montessori environment into a big school and immediately fell prey to bullies. Bullied by insensitive children who were barely six or seven years old. This was shocking. My parents always made us think of other people first and how to make them comfortable, and today that quality is seen as a ticket for someone else to push you over. People mistake kindness for weakness. Being kind is an absolute strength of character. It takes a lot of self control not to yell, scream, dominate or disregard.
And that’s why this #payitforward initiative. It has nothing to do with the sales of the brand. It is not even linked to it. It is a simple reminder to all who follow us or read our message boards to practice kindness intentionally. A personality trait we definitely need to inculcate in our children who are the future of this world. So that they struggle lesser with human emotions than we did. We, as a brand, want to celebrate just any form of kindness. Continue sending your stories to us as kindness is contagious and the more we talk about it, the more we feel the need to practice it. There is plenty in this world for everyone. We don’t have to fight for a share of the pie always. We just need to be kind and the universe will fill our lives with plenty! And to all the good Samaritans I met along the way… love always!
Love always!
Liz
